Thanks Chris.
Skimmer:
No collection cup and plumbing right now, off to lowes for more fittings! It will be approx 24" tall, made of 3" with triple pass.
I should have the sump tomorrow; the LFS's supplier sent a 2.5 instead of the 5.5. I will drill the water takeoffs for the return and skimmer, going to reinforce the sump with a 3/16 piece of glass glued directly to the side, so hopefully no cracking.
CLS is complete, not picworthy at the moment tho.

Thanks Mike. I did a short wet test yesterday, everything is water tight. I'm projecting fresh water by the end of the week (if my sump is in).

Very Nice. You need to take it apart and go step by step on the build of that skimmer.

Wow, very nice. that will be one sweet system!
minor concern, what size outlet pipe do you have on the skimmer? i am thinking that is a bit small. if you are thinking of using a Mag 5. it should be at least a 3/4" outlet pipe. preferably a 1".

And if you figure out how to do that, please tell me because I have a bunch of accidently glued together parts I'd like to reuse!

It's 3/4, I am powering it with a quiet one 1200, 294 or whatever GPH. I did some testing a little earlier and it works great; I'll put the plans up soon.
Well my tank still wasnt in, so I'm doing a 2.5 gallon refuge with a 5.5 (filled a little less than half) sump.

I drilled my 5.5 gallon sump with the reinforced side, (sandwiched by 1/8" glass). Did a wet test for the return system and the side cracked. So, I was going to replace the side with 1/4" glass and ended up cracking the side of the 5.5 when I was scraping silicone. Not to mention I split my finger open due to that stupid trim.
I'll be building a new sump; I have a good sized sheet of 1/4 glass, so it will most likely be glass.
I guess I know how you feel Roger.

Maybe we should start a new club, the "Cracked Glass Group" or something.
Our mascot could be the fat lady singing.
Ah well, just a minor setback. For us the end result is better because I sure won't be worried about busting the bottom. When Genie finished the hole for the overflow, the cut-out dropped onto the floor and didn't even break!
"Not to mention I split my finger open due to that stupid trim." You mean with all that broken glass around you cut your finger on the plastic?! That takes some real talent. You can be president of our group.
