Yep, who needs a yellowtail damsel when you can cycle the tank with a Rhodactis and a featherduster!

Geez, that rock looks like it is solid coraline, how long did that take?

Nice looking rock. I have some corraline that resembles that kind, very cool stuff.
Great looking tubastrea too.

That rock, along with a bunch of other stuff is in the sump of a system with just a refugium full of mangroves. The sump is full of rock with a LOA 65W light over it. It's kind of like one of those drawers you have in the kitchen, which catches all the junk! In other words it's got rock of all ages, but the system has been set up for two years, so no longer than that. I've got a bucket of aragonite and a bucket of cement, so every so often I'll just gt a hair to make some rock, then throw it in a rubbermaid full of water next to my RO/DI to soak. After the pH goes down, I throw the rock into the sump to become "live". Either got to start using the stuff or get a bigger sump!
Tonight we'll scrape the corraline off the back of the main display and put it in the nano. Pink and purple! Then some calcium gluconate and sodium carbonate and LOOK OUT!!!!!
I confess to really falling for the tubastrea. It's like a baby parrot. Tease it with some food, then when it opens its mouth poke a bunch down it. It's responding very nicely. For me, that'll be the belweather of success to this tank, how well he grows!
Oh did I mention we got a pretty little Acanthestrea for a great price also?

Okay, here's the setup before the upper door is set and the detailing is done.
Specs:
10 gallon tank with DIY corner overflow
Mag 3 return through a 4 outlet spraybar manifold
AquaC Urchin with MJ 1200
10 gallon sump with 100 micron filter bag on overflow outlet
recycled fan for cooling
5# aragonite sand laced with 1# livesand and base rock rubble
1# of liverock to cycle (maybe more to come)
6# of sliced baserock glued to back wall
175W metal halide SE - XM 15000K (bare magnetic ballast in a cracker tin and recycled floodlight fixture)
2-blue led nightlights (for me, not the livestock)
stand DIY from old tv stand and 2X4 riser stand
Began cycling on 10/26/05
So now my cards are on the table...........

Geoff and Casey, the fan is ambiguous. 175W light on for 8 hours raised the temp from 76d to 77d F. During the period of the contest, this room is cool in the winter, likely have to buy a heater.
On the other hand, fixture has glass shield. If I don't see good growth, I'll remove the glass, which may transfer more heat and necessitate the fan.

Looks great!
The 15kK looks nice. I have yet to decide on 10 or 15, leaning towards 10 since you had growth trouble on you 19g.

Oops, let out my secret that I'm afraid of the dark.
And I'd definitely suggest the 10K, I'm hoping a 15K is enough on this 10 gallon.

it looks a lot higher than i was thinkng. for some reason i though you were making an enclosed hood. if you are that low, than you will prolly be fine.
