I posted this in the DIY forum but hopefully one of you guys/gals who are also up to your ears in this buildoff can give me some more informed advice...

1. I have a 20 AGA that I am going to drill for an overflow. I know I can drill the bottom, what about the back of the tank?

2. Is there a special pump for a closed loop circuit? I want to use a Mag 5 or Mag 7 is this okay? I am afraid of leaks and didn't know if a particular pump was 'leak proof' and specifically designed for a CLC.

3. Is there a special pipe/glue to use for a CLC?

4. Any thing else I need to know about putting a CLC together?

5. www.savko.com has several choices for bulkheads. Specifically in the 'black' ones that they are calling lightweight, there are three kinds. They all look the same to me, what is the difference?

6. Savko's loc line fittings are all orange, where do you get black ones??

Thanks, thanks, and more thanks.

1) Risky business unless you know it's not tempered. Tempered cannot be drilled.
2) I've used Mag's on a cls, they shouldn't leak.
3) Nope
4) Uhhhh.... I don't know what you know!
5) s/s - both ends slip; s/t - one end slip, the other end threaded' t/t both threaded
6) Marine Depot, for one

Bought the lumber for my stand last night. I 'practiced' this weekend by making a doghouse, which may turn into my house if all the aquarium paraphernalia doesn't get cleaned up in the bed room. Anyway, I am in process of sump design. Most skimmers turnover rate does not equal the return pump, therfore 100% of the water that goes over the overflow does not run through the skimmer. I am using a CLC on my entry powered by a Mag 5, which is also the same pump that runs my Aqua C EV 120. For the return pump I am going to use a Mag 3 (which will push less water than what circulates through my skimmer). The sump will have 2 sections, lets say a 'left' and a 'right'. The overflow drain and the skimmer pump will go in the left section. The outflow of the skimmer will spill into the section on the right. The divider will have holes drilled so that waterflow from the right can spill back into the section on the left. The return Mag 3 will be in the right side and this way it will only push 100% skimmed water back to the tank. I figure the heavier solids have a hard enough time getting over the overflow once, no need to make them have to do it two or more times. Let me know what you guys/gals think.

Got started on the stand today.
First one is what my kitchen table looks like at the moment. Hard to beat sippy cups, Gorilla Glue, and DeWalt power tools
Second pic is of the legs drying
Third is either the top or bottom (still have one more of these to put together)
More tomorrow

I ran out of wood before I got the sides put in but I am pleased with what was done today. My arms feel like jello from all the sanding and I am pretty sure I have a significant buildup of 'nasal wood'. I can't decide if I should stain/varnish it or paint it some other color.

Thanks! My dad is my long distance coach; I've spent about an hour on the phone with him in the last 24 hours. So far it has been alot of fun...but I HATE painting and I am running out of construction so the inevitable soon approaches.

Thanks Casey and Tim! Every screw in the stand was pre-drilled and countersunk...needless to say there was alot of chucking and unchucking. I also glued everything with gorilla glue except the lip and the top sheet of ply; just in case there is a leak I want to be able to remove those pieces without having to build the whole stand again. I am going to seal and paint the inside of the stand, especially the bottom. In the event that the sump were to overflow for some reason, my carpet won't be wet. Maybe I can get the sides closed and the door made in the next day or two. That will allow me to procrastinate the painting
