Tweeeet!! Time Out!!

(Alice throwing the flag on the field!)

I don't want this Nano Build-Off turning into a Flame-Out so the next person that Sounds-Off will be assessed a 5 Gallon Penalty for Ruffling The Admin's Feathers!

Now that I have your attention....

The Reef Tank Mission Statement says "family friendly and flame-free" so let's try to keep to that shall we? You may debate all that you want, but please put forth your arguments and opinions in a courteous fashion. You know who you are in this thread so I won't name names. We all aim to educate and learn here; Admins, Moderators and Members alike. It's hard to learn or teach when fire alarms are going off.

The TRT Mission Statement goes on to read: "We also aim to educate ourselves and others about responsible animal husbandry, promoting captive-raised livestock and aquacultured corals when possible."

Greggles, you've got a tough row to hoe to convince people on this board that your stocking levels or choice of animals is appropriate for a nano tank when they are so far out of the spectrum of what is the norm. Again, I suggest that you make sure that your choices are educated ones and then try to lead people to your way of thinking. It may not work; the nature of animals - and human nature - only stretches so far. If you'd like to put forth some logical arguments, I'll keep this thread open. If things get out of hand again, I'm closing it.

Alice

well said Alice ! I also noticed in the rules this excerpt

Purpose:
The main purpose of this contest is to encourage each other to share building techniques for nano tanks and to post construction threads

I hope to enter the contest and would like it to be as friendly and as informative as the rest of TRT

Is it fare that an entire thread was created against me. i don't mean to drag it on but that guy isn't even in the buildoff (so i'm aware of).
Can we please remove it and get on with it , i get the point!

I'd like to remind the contestants that the goal is to provide the best habitat. Perhaps you can put a fish in a dixie cup and keep it alive, and perhaps you can put 25 fish in a 5 gallon tank and keep them alive. But is it really the best habitat for them? Please, think long and hard about your inhabitants. There are no points awarded for attempting something that risks the lives you are building your tanks to support.

You will gain more points in this contest by limiting your stock and still making your system interesting. The intent is to help find ways to make it more comfortable for the same stocking levels, not to increase the stocking levels. It is not about how much, but how well they are supported and how well it all works together.

Two members of the contest have been removed because, well, they were trolls. Several facts allowed us to determine that they were not who they claimed to be. Just an FYI.

I really don't want to do much to keep this going, but I DO feel the need to hopefully share some life experience.

I can see how you feel that way. But try to take a deep breath, and a step back, and look at what was initially written:

Let's say, hypothetically, that Alaskaknucklehead was thinking specifically about you when he created this thread. I do have to say that he at least took the time to either hide that fact, or expand the thought into a more general warning to all getting involved.

There are lots of newbies on here (not you) who might not really have thought about it, unless it was brought up. My 16 year old step-daughter being one of them. She wants to join the contest, and was telling me all the fish she wants to get. I corrected her. But that's cause she lives in my house. There are others on here who are NOT in my house (go figure).

It's quite obvious that you took Alaskaknuckleheads comments personal and that his delivery struck a nerve in you, but even if he was trying to be nasty, you should have chosen to take the hight road, and asked..."hey...are you referring to my entry? If so, I feel I should clarify", or something less angry.

That may not be your personal way of dealing with things in life, or maybe it is. But the most important thing here is....Here at TRT, I believe that you must MAKE that your way of dealing with things. That's the whole point of THIS forum...and what makes TRT better than all the others

You can call it wimpy, or passive, or whatever...but in MY opinion, its a way of cutting out all the BS, and getting down to JUST furthering our knowledge. Which is why ALL of us are here.

Not attacking anyone .... I just wanted to share another way to view this.

I still think this was a good thread regardless of what brought it about.

Turns out that yardboy is actually a 22 year old girl from the Philippines and pinayreefer is a 49 year old man from Mississippi. Totally misrepresented themselves for personal gain and pleasure.
