My college was the same way. I had a 55 gallon in my dorm room (freshwater cichlids) but, a 55 is a 55 reguardless. (Northern Michigan University).

I just read the 2006-2007 Residence Life planner, and it states that "small fish" are the only pets allowed in dorm rooms. The 10gal limit was there in 2003-2004 when I was a freshman, but now they just say "small fish." In my opinion, anything short of a dolphin would be a "small fish" that I'd put in my dorm room. :-)
So, double check, but it looks like most campuses have a pretty relaxed set of rules when it comes to putting a fish tank in your room.

haha you know as fun as it would be to have my 55 with id really like to have some room to sleep... besides my roomate is a bit of a partying hick ... i wouldnt want my tank to turn into that, although that does look comparable to my 5 gallon reef minus the suspicious orange liquid of course

Used- AGA 26 Bow Front Aquarium, Solid Pine Stand and Matching Hood w/ Light 1yr old, NO Cracks or Leaks. Minor Scratches: $150.00 o.b.o
Here's a small bowfront being sold by a guy at the meeting in Black River Falls on Saturday (I believe his TRT username was Sndwave80). If you are interested in this and decide to buy it, Chuck or I could certainly pick it up and bring it back for you.
Just thought I'd let you know,
Joe

Dude thats totally what lofts are for. Beds on top. Sofa under oneside. tank under the other. Just wait till you see how some of the setups are over there. ( I wonder if mine is still floating around there) My roommate and his family were in construction. the frame was 2x10 or 12's and the bed box was 2x6's plus bottoms to that. They were able to be angled up about 70 degrees during the day to allow alot more room. It did get alot of wows back then. wow that was 7 years ago. lol
