shroom question
I got a 'wiggly' mushroom.....geez, I know the name....it was one that chuck left at Gregs....it split, I got a piece....anyway....it has these 'finger like thingy's and they wiggle....okay, here's the scoop. Getting ready to leave today, looked in the tank.......that sucker was blown up like a ballon, all the 'fingers' not showing. I thought it was gonna blow and take the roof off the house...well, not really, but....I had to leave. Got home...it's just like it used to be, only it looks skinnier in the mid section. Is it splitting???? YES, I am...AM dumb 'bout this stuff. Thanks in advance.

Linda, did it "poop" any brown stuff? I have a hairy mushroom like the one you described (I think its a type of rhodactis???), and it will get very large, but the little "fingers" have always been visible on mine. But it did "poop" out brown stuff, which is the symbotic algae that grows in it, and is now a slightly different color. If it was acting funny it could have been expelling some algae cause of the different tank conditions and just adjusting. If it was going to split, you should see the formation of two mouths. Just keep an eye on it make sure its healthy. Good luck!

Linda i fed my corals brine shrimp mixed with selcon today and i snapped a few photos for you to see what a mushroom looks like eating. when this shroom is not eating, it is rather small in diameter so keep that in mind when seeing the photos. it probably about doubled in size.
i hope these help linda

cool, that is short what it looked like. So do you spot feed it? I was told you didn't have to feed corals. So you DO have to feed them? I did get some stuff, like calcium, and other things I read that one needs for heathy corals...hope it will make a difference...like help them look good and so forth. Hoping my purple/blue..shroom will 'have a family'...lol, ya'll know what I mean. I have major brain fog tonight, which is not all that unusual....sorta normal these days. Kids are p.o'd at me too, say I'm obsessed with my tanks. Well....they think they are too important for me now...so I think they are getting a taste of their own medicine...ha ha ha. young teens........geeez. Green Bananas, that's what I call them, AND, it's the title of my new book..in progress, on raising teens....ya'll with little ones will NEED Green Bananas!!!! I'll explain someday!!!!!!

i shoot my mushrooms, with a turkey baster, some liquid phytoplankton food mixed with saltwater to feed them. they have grown and multiplied on their own. none have split, just mulitiplied.

oh one more thing... when i feed my clycopeeze, the mushrooms do cup up and eat when some fall onto them. it's a pretty cool thing to watch them do.
enjoy them! it's a never ending watching game with the tank. so much to see and not enough time.

Linda,
yes i do spot feed around 2 - 3 times a week. its not necessary to spot feed. but i feel it helps to spot feed, corals seem to grow bigger, and spread quicker with spot feeding. i just mix brine shrimp with selcon in a small cup along with alittle bit of tank water allow it to sit for about an hour or so so the brine shrimp could soak up the selcon and take a small pipette and draw up the food and put your arm in the tank and just squirt alittle around the mouth of the corals and the corals will eat. just like my shroom in the pics above, actually after i snapped the pics, it completely blew up into a ball. but thats ok, the pics showed basically what any type of shrooms look like when they are eating, along with they will also look almost the same at night time with the lights off....

so when my blue mushroom cups up it's eating, not trying to croak?
