Added a second filter to the tank.
I'm of the school of "there's no such thing as too much filtration" when it comes to fish tanks, and since I tend to go the controlled overcrowding route with my cichlids (it helps curb aggression and stop 'one fish' from being picked on all the time), I'm used to setting up filtration double what I should need for the tank.
Last night, I was out browsing pet stores, and TW had a Jebo internal filter marked down to $30 from $60.
Bought it, got it installed, and there's a big difference overnight in the water clarity.
We had, previously, just a Magnum 220 and a Penguin powerhead; I also have a Fluval One jammed down near the bottom in a corner just for low level water flow.
Now, we've got the Jebo in the mix as well.
It looks a little odd as we can't quite get it in a back corner (curse you hex tanks) where we'd like it, but it's really helped with the water flow; I've pointed the spout toward the back corner where the heater is situated, and all the CRAP that 'blew' out once a good current hit the back corner was just disgusting/amazing.
Seems I had some dead spots back there.
Tank temp seems much more even as well.
The filter is nice, despite being so huge; it came with
bio balls, ceramic rings, a rechargable carbon filter, the coarse blue pad and the fine white pad, as well as a rather powerful pump.
Heh, it's nicer than the
canister filter that we have.
Usually the water is only this clear right after a water change.
I think I like this additional filter.
Our spaz of a starfish kept crawling onto it as we were trying to get it situated.
