Salts

Yes this is a rookie question. I basically I don't trust pet stores or sales people. Is there any one sale better then the other? Say Kent, instant ocean, oceanics?

You are opening a can of worms . Everyone has a different favourite. The last 10 years I have used Kent, Instant Ocean, and now I am on Oceanic. Most people love Instant Ocean especially the ones using Reef Crystals. One of my most faithful customers swears by it. She said that she wont try anything else because the one time that she experiment with a different type of salt (although it was the regular Instant Ocean salt) her anemones shrinked to nothing. So it is Reef Crystals for her. Others will buy whatever is on sale. My best advice would be find one type of salt that keeps both your pocket and your fish happy and stick with it. Don't mix and match too often and most important don't breath too close to the bucket when you mix it up. Good luck

Instant Ocean for me. Just cause. No other reason. I would like to try IO reef crystals, but I have 200g of regular IO to use up for my 20g nano. So I think it will be awhile before I can experiment with anything else

i started with IO, didnt like it, i had to buffer it too much to get the levels i was looking for, so i switched to Oceanic, stopped using oceanic yes the levels are elevated but for some reason after a month of using it i had a tremendous amount of hair algae breaking out. stopped using it switched to catalina water which NSW, i really liked it, but sorta got expensive and i got tired of lugging the 5 gallon boxes all the time..... now i switched to reef crystals and i will see how it works.

i am gonna give 2 more cents on this post then i will shut my mouth. You must understand what works someone elses tank may not work for yours. every tank is different. so you use what is best for your tanks and livestock and stick with that
