Rbta
Hey all,
Just wondering who out there has an RBTA that splits? I am looking to find someone in the EC area that has one. I don't need it now, but wouldn't mind having it in a month or so. Since I am starting my reef, I don't have much to trade, so I would have to buy it, so let me know a price
Thanks in advance!

I have a RBTA that has split and would be willing to sell. Let me know if I should hold it for you. I'm usually in Eau Claire about 1-2 weekends per month.

yes, I got four huge ones that should be splitting pretty soon. Mine are not so accessible right now, but usually the splits/clones will relocate onto smaller rocks and I can get them out easier.

Lori has a bunch of good stuff and is always a pleasure to deal with. The parent of the RBTA clone that I have came from Lori.

I've been meaning to post some pics of several corals, including the RBTA and my huge brown BTA. One of these days I'll post some updated pics.

Hey Lori, let me know when you get some of that rbta. I would like a couple if possible.

My RBTA is the size of a dinner plate, and my purple LTA is even larger than that. Neither have ever split for me, but if they ever do, you all are welcome to vie for who gets it/them. Perhaps they'll be more likely to split in their new 75 gallon home when it's up and running in 5 or 6 months.

Hi Joe, I would be very interested in buying or trading for the purple lta if you get a split. I love those. Would love to see pics of your tank!

You really like the purple LTA's huh Lori? So is there some sort of method on coaxing them to split? If so, could you let me know your secret?

Joe, you can ask Lori on how to coax a RBTA to split, but from what I hear if you feed it heavily for a month or so, then do a large water change it will split. I guess the water change stresses it, which triggers it to split. I have heard of others nicking it with a knife to start a split and others go so far as cutting it in half through the mouth (although I wouldn't advise doing that). I am not sure how to split a purple LTA at all.

Well, they're both in a 20 gal right now so I know they're not going to split in that tank anytime soon. I'm setting up my 75 gal. reef slowly right now, but I don't expect that to be done until this summer sometime. However, once they're in there, I'd expect the rbta to split, and possibly the lta although there's limited info about them splitting reliably in captivity. However, once they're in their new home, I'll let you guys/gals know about any splits, since they'll be available at minimal cost from me.
As far as pictures, I'll try to get some taken and posted this afternoon. I've managed to keep an rbta and purple lta (both huge) in a 20 gal tank with two tomato clowns for almost a year now, so it's really a testament to how stable a tank can become, I guess. I certainly didn't expect success like this with that kind of setup ...
Looking forward to meeting some of you,
Joe Schneider
