'Pods

It's a bit of a stretch, I know... But does anyone in the Eau Claire area happen to have a copepod and/or amphipod culture that you keep to feed your fish? I'm asking because I'd like to add some more amphipods and copepods to my 'fuge. I bought a small population of each from Florida Pets, but my population never seemed to "take off" in the tank like I had hoped over the last month. So, I'm hoping some of you might be able to hook me up with a few pods of each type so that I can try again to seed my tank. I'm building up to a future Mandarin, so the pods have to get in there somehow...

If nobody can help me out, I'll place an order online and I'll let any of you know so that we can maybe split shipping charges on livestock.

Thank you everybody,
Joe Schneider

Joe,
I don't know if we met at Dave's on the 11th...I too am looking for pods. Found some at oceanpods.com that look good, but will run $25 or so. I'd get them from liveaquaria with some fish next week, but they don't seem to stock them. Do you expect them to simply go up to the main tank through the return? That's what I'm hoping for.

Welcome to TRT Matt. The pods should multiply like crazy in the refugium area of your sump, but it usually will take a couple of months before you start seeing a bunch of them in your main tank with a flashlight. Even then, certain fish will eat them quickly as well so they still might not appear in your tank. It used to hate the feeling of having little amphipods and copepods running on my hands after removing them from the water during coral and rock placement.

Matt - I'll can try to pull some pods out for you to try sometime before spending your money ordering some online.

Joe - Someone in EC should have a bunch of pods in their refugium, but I can't think of anyone offhand that has a refugium. I'd get some to you too, but I don't think I'll have the time to stop by while up there anytime soon. It probably wouldn't be until late January or February at the earliest.

I'm fully stocked with chaeto. :-) I'll probably place an order online for pods at some point. When I do it I'll post here so anyone else can get something with the shipment.

Thanks all,
Joe
