New Light Pics

The new MH ballasts finally arrived. It took about two hours to remove the old ballasts and capacitors from the case, drill new holes and mount the new ballasts and capacitors. I couldn't wait to see the results.

Picture of my old 175w MH's. As you can see, the middle bulb was the only bulb that was lighting up fully and then it still had a yellow tint. Swapping bulbs around made no difference.

New 250w, 10k XM ballast and bulbs. The bulbs have a touch of yellow in them that hopefully will go away once the bulbs burn in. The camera had a tough time focusing with the bright light.

New 10k XM MH's with 2-140w super actinic VHOs. The picture is still a little washed out looking. The actual coral colors look much better.

I'll be posting more pics once the bulbs are burnt in.

The halides only ran for 1 1/2 hrs last night. The only coral that reacted to it was the toadstool stretched up toward the light. It was high up under T5's up until a week and a half ago, so it probably likes the added light. I'm going to wait and see how the corals react before deciding if I need to filter the light. I am going to have the VHO's shut off when the halides are running though for a while.

My wife says that the tank is too bright to look at now. Maybe I should have stuck with the 175w or got higher k, lower par 250w bulbs. The 175w wouldn't work as good for clams or SPS though so I think the 250w was a wise choice.
