This is a great heads up for alot of people. Be very careful about livestock and equipment from ebay. If alot of this is so good why don't they have online businesses. For example how many of those ro units they sell on there are they good for reefs. Maybe for a few months if that. There cheap but you get what you pay for. Alot of times its worth buying from someone you know thats a dealer. You might pay a little more, but when you invest so much its worth it.

I think the key is to not fall for "steals" on eBay. 300 Nassarius snails for $35 shipped to your door might be a great deal, but I saw the good feedback and still just wasn't sure because of the picture. I Googled it and found out how destructive/bad this particular Nassarius snail on eBay could be. And it's no wonder you can get so many, because the species is a pest along the Carolinas and you could collect thousands in a day for free if you had a boat...
eBay is great for buying reef stuff, but it's "anything goes" on there, so you have to avoid impulsively buying something for a "good price" without knowing for sure what you're getting into.

im still out on if they are whelks or nass.....but either way i went thru last night after i turned the daylights off and pulled 100 out of my tank.....another reason ilean towards whelks since these came out at night like whelks...
this morning i pulled another dozen small ones.....so far i dont "see" anymore but im gona keep an eye on them...as im not gona risk my crocea with them....
im keeping them in a cooler just in case or if worse comes to worse I HAVE TRIGGER FOOD FOR SOMEONE!!!! LOL
if they are BAD then that sucks cuz they clean the crap outa the sand bed and rocks....they went across my ENTIRE sandbed in 48hrs and had ALL the brown algea gone....
im not sure if the WHELKS is a good id or not...these mve pretty fast and SOME have elongated foot like NASS snails while others dont and maybe WHELKS....might be a mixture or both....
im not one for killing stuff unless its TRUELY BAD.....i mean these guys would serve a purpose in a FOWLR tank.....and if someone has a trigger in there that can keep them in check that would help as well....

35.00 / 300 snails. 11.6 cents each
I'm guessing if they cleaned up your tank that quick how long would they survive also. I wonder what would happen to the nitrate levels if there was a large die off

i am almost 100% positive they are whelks... If you go by the ID that is giving on melvesreef or w/e, they look identical to the whelks pictured. They have the same pattern on their heads as the whelks. Also if you look at a picture of a true nass. snail, they dont look anything like them... I am dissapointed I made this mistake, but on the bright side it was only a $35 mistake, which in this hobby, is barley anything lol... For someone without clams, I bet theyd make a great CUC!
