I love those things, I will get one when all my stuff gets into its forever tank. (in a few months) Until then I am afraid it would knock something over, all my stuff is pretty packed in, in both tanks, and not anchored down well since I will be tearing it all down in a week here to put it into a temporary tank.

I agree it's gorgeous, but they have a dismal survival record in captivity. Slowly starve to death...poor things... Hope you're ready to give it the nutrition it needs!
Wishing you luck!

I have one in my tank as well and it has been doing fine. It hides under a rock and is tough to get a good view of it and to spot feed it.. Do not keep reaching into your tank to move it to a different location or you will stress it out and kill it. Flame scallops are hard to keep and do need to be spot fed to be kept alive. They are also a short lived species, about 3 years max. in the wild, but usually survive for under one year in captivity.

Nice scallop Greg Too bad you didn't sell me a healthy one!! ... J/k Good luck with it. I have my $5 on three weeks, that will put it at April 26th. Anyone want to get in on the bet with me to see how long Greg can keep it alive? Sorry Greg, had too.

I have had mine for over 6 months and do not spot feed. He stuck himself to the top of the tank for about two months so whenever I did a water change he was out of the water for about ten minutes.(stupid thing)He is doing just fine

If it was healthy to begin with, they should survive at least 3-6+ months without spot feeding. Spot feeding them or having dirty water in your tank should help it to survive longer. For the price of flame scallops, it's not a terrible deal spending money on them, just not ideal to spend money on something that more than likely will not survive as long as they would in the wild. Although what ever does live as long in our tank as in the wild. I'm sure most of the anemones that people buy are not going to live for over 100 years in their tank.
Greg - Have you seen the flame scallops at night yet when "lighting" ripples across their mouth?

Brian....why did you give my secret away? .(..Spot feeding them or having dirty water in your tank should help it to survive longer.) Everyone knows that I dont believe in the spot feeding but they had no idea how filthy my water is, I could have made some money from the bets. Maybe we should do a poll...(Petunia????) Seriously though I think I am fortunate that I got a really good speciment and looks plenty healthy, I am comfident that it will do good in there. I wonder how AFish4You is doing with his. Here is the kicker I got charged for a regular flame scallop which made it even better, so next Tuesday I am ordering as many as I can if anyone else is interested.
