I am looking at ordering snails and crabs from an online vendor. Let me know what you need and I will see what the best deal I can get.I may be ordering fish too.

I've got a little hair algae in my 12 gallon nano that keeps popping up in new places (I manually pull it every so often). Is there a clean up crew recommendation you can make? I don't want to overwhelm my little tank with critters, but I don't want it getting out of control, either. I think I have 3 sm/med astrea snails, 2 nassarius snails, 1-2 blue legged hermits and 1-2 zebra hermits. It's hard to count all the little buggers at once, but I originally added 3 blue legs and 2 zebras. I've also got a peppermint shrimp and a cleaner skunk shrimp. Thoughts?

What kind of water are you using? How long are the lights on?

IMO, cut the lights back to 7 or 8 hours, and get a cheap timer if you do not have one, may make a world of difference!

A couple of people in TCMAS have had Sea Hares. I've heard they did quite a job on the bryopsis (spelling?).
If aggitated they can squirt ink, which if I recall correctly, is toxic to inhabitants.
Wonderful creatures however.

I've heard the toxic ink is a myth, but I'd want to research it further before testing it in my own tank. I've also heard of several fish stores that will keep one and rent it out for the week and they'll do a great job cleaning up your tanks. Does anyone think they might be interested in something like that at tropic waters, or somewhere else reasonably close? They could make a killing if they rented out a $15 critter for $5 a week, assuming they could keep it alive.

I wouldn't trust anything in Tropic Waters tanks, unless it's in a plastic bag and has just come in!

i completely agree with Chuck, i would not trust any livestock from TWs tanks. my first 2 clowns i bought from them died, and he gave me a real hard time about replacing them because they were in my tank for 48hrs. so i went to a place called um, PetCo, and my 2 clowns and Damsel have been alive ever since.
but about your theory, TW, would not agree to it, i have spoke with Jim a number of times, and he seems like the type that would not do it. JMO.

I spoke with him briefly today about snails and he told me the tongan nassarius snails they had there were cerith and any of the snails they had would eat hair algae, so yeah... not impressed. On the other hand, if it would survive long enough at the store, his little mini-tanks could stand a good cleaning from a sea hare. :P

his tanks are very disgusting, and smelly, thats why i dont buy from there. i will in a pinch if i need dry goods. but he is so over priced it is unbearable. when i first got into this hobby he steered me the complete wrong way. then i found SWF and they steered me in the right direction, after awhile i was starting to learn things so i decided to ask Jim questions, but i already knew answers to them and i was not impressed with his answers he was giving me.
