firefish goby question(S)

does anyone have any of these? i seem to have an issue with mine...

do they ever come out into the open or are they a pretty hidin fish?

mine have been in the tank for a week now and they dont come out. i havent seen them the past 5 days.....thought they died....but when i went in there lookin for them they where in a lil cave under a large rock. came out when i moved the rock, stayed out for about 1min and then disappeared again and havent seen them a day now.....

just wondering if they ever come out into the open??
do i need to worry about them starvin to death? or is there a chance they are eating something since they are still alive???

They are pretty skittish, but should be out in the open unless they feel threatened. What other fish do you have in the tank? What size tank?

I'm sticking with most of the time they will hide. I have only seen a very few that are ever out. The purples I see out more. Yes they will come out once in awhile but for the most part they will hide, The best bet that I have seen before is when you see them at the store for awhile. Watch them do they hide alot. Most of them will but you will come accros one once in awhile that isn't so shy. put it this way even in the Docs tank he has a few in there but I'm guessing you didn't see any of them when you stoped in.

usually they will eat more of a sinking food. The one I had came out in the evenings but that was usually it.

We have two of them - purchased them a little over a year ago at Dr. Foster & Smith in Rhinelander. They are usually out at all times. We just feed ours frozen shirmp and they really like the pellets.

If they do hear a noise (ie: our kids or a dog barking, they hide).

still havent seen them again today.....if i look under the big rock i can see them so i know they are alive....

im thinkin that my tang scares them......cuz when they where out and the kole tang gets near them...they disappear....

in my tank is the kole tang, foxface(not sure which one yet HEY BRAD WHAT IS IT), 2 banggai cardinals, 1 PJ cardnial, 2 oc clowns and the butterfly.

and of course my small but growin cleanup crew....hermits,shunk,coral banded, lawnmower, starfish

I don't have some of the fish that you do due to the size of my tank but I do have some. My firefish usually is in a rock with his (or her) tail sticking out as the only thing visible. It will definitely come running for pellets. It can be hiding for a couple of days and when it hears the lid open - feeding time! It is on guard, even when feeding. The dorsal is always twitching, must be those nasty clownfish.

Thay are very skittish and the tang can do it ButI guess you have a good size tank since you have a tang but a tang goes all over and scare him.

stop, think and research before you buy is the best way to start out. you may reach a point and max out your tank now. Before they even start to grow. Heck my PJ cardinal was only a dime size 4 months ago and now you see how big it is. My tangs are growing. I'm just playing with time right now. My tank is way over the limit. I'm just letting things grow and let nature run its course (yes I did just buy a tang a little bit ago but it was too cheap to pass up ) something may die eventually just due to the issue of size and number of fish. yes I hope to have a bigger tank by then but I may have to get rid of something before then.
