Eeew, red slime algae!

On ONE piece of rock.
It never leaves that piece of rock, but it's also the bit that the green hairy mushroom twins are on, and they don't want to let go so I can remove the rock to scrub it properly.

Is that red slime remover stuff safe for inverts, or am I doomed to having to scrape and scrape that rock until the daft mushrooms decide to move?

Your doomed. The only way to get rid of red slime is to give all your fish, inverts, corals, etc. away and then treat your tank.... Just Kidding

IMO, the best product out there to treat red slime is Chemi-Clean. It works really good. I beleive most, if not all, of the products out there that treat red slime are safe for corals and inverts. Some just work better than others. What product are you thinking about using? I'm not sure if TW sells Chemi-Clean or not. I am almost certain that Petco does not.

I think I heard that you should use a calcium buffer when that appears, and also could try a product like Phosband(phosphate remover) in the sump a few days.

I have also used chem-clean in the past with excellent results. I do have some if you would like to borrow it. LMK

if you wanted to try it I cut one of my green hairy mushrooms that had split off of a rock and it reattached within a couple days in a new spot (and actually the little part that stayed on the rock I removed it from is growing a new head) if you decide you need to move them. Mine are really resilliant and have split several times, so they seem to be tough little buggers. I think Tim had posted directions for getting it to attach where you like in the shroom propogation post.

I used the Chem Clean as well. Chuck was kind enough to let use some of his and it worked great. Within 4 days everything was gone.
