Corallife HQI/PC fixture.....
i really want one of the MH/PC lighting fixture, so i called Drs. Foster and Smith to get the dimensions of the 36" fixture, and the dang thing wont fit my bowfront. the fixture is 15" wide, and my 46g bow front is almost 13" wide. does anyone have any suggestions for mounting this fixture, without using the mounting legs??

Can you put a shelf up on the wall and hang it from that?

Hang it.
We hung our Odyssea light as NOTHING fits a hex tank quite right. It looks fairly decent, and if you're not particular about supersleek looks, it can be done relatively cheaply with in-ceiling plant hooks and chain.

I just hung my MH pendant with chain and hooks from Menards. If you can't put holes in the ceiling, then I guess that idea is shot. Could you some how rig up 2 by 4s so that they come up behind the tank then over it so you can hang the light from there? It would look like the letter "C" with the tank in the open part of the "C" Just my 2 cents.

Kill the landlord???
On a serious note, here's how I solved a similar dillema. I made a stand out of pvc. I made a "T" shape that sits on the floor. Then there's a length of pipe going straight up, and 90 degree fittings and more pvc on the top to extend it over the tank. Then I drilled holes through the pvc over the tank and used wire to hang the pendant from the pvc. The wall and tank are close together, so I don't have it fixed to anything, but tape or glue or some tie downs would work if you needed to use them, I think. Not terribly pretty, but it works.
I'm sure with some DIY work you'll find the right solution for you.

You could always paint it so it doesn't stand out!But I say hang it from the ceiling and you just spackle the holes when you leave.
