candy canes and horseshoe crabs

um so ok how to explain simple. I pulled my horseshoe crab out of the candycane today. Was he dead already? He was alive last night. Did the cane kill him?

Humm Don't get me excited here. how would one know then. Wouldn't there be an open spot? I think it was kinda redish in the back does that help?
