Question

calcium reactors


just wondering if anyone here runs one???

do you have to have one? or is there a way to get by without one?

im trying to find a cheap way to get by for now till i can afford one.....is there an additive that can be added? or mixed in with top off water??

I run one, but most people choose to do a two part solution additive. It's much cheaper (in terms of initial $ setup), and works well. Ca reactors are great as a constant doser, and for high demand tanks. You can check it out if you come to our next meeting.

DJ... If you have enough Sand and LR you might be able to get away without one... As far as high demand tanks go I have quite a high amt of Hard Corals and I get by just fine... I'm sure eventually after the tank settles in I might need to get one... But, until that day comes I'll continue to go w/out getting ANOTHER piece of equipment. Just watch your calcium levels and if you can stay in the 400's-500ish range you should be o.k. *I stay pretty consistant at 470ppm*

i average between 420-450...........i get a different reading everytime with this test i got.........
