The H1N1 virus has been hitting this area hard, with a couple local school districts having absentee rates between 10%-15% right now. Thankfully, the local nurses have said that even though the H1N1 virus is very prevalent in the area right now, most cases have been very mild.

Better she gets it now than after it builds up strength and becomes potentially dangerous.
I wish her a speedy recovery.

We've been hit HARD here in the La Crosse Area..Onalaska high school had around 250 out Friday (25%) and Central high school had 418, and 20 staff out Monday. I teach at Holmen, and we've been much lower for now. My niece had it (9th grader at Onalaska High) and was out for 5 days. It's hitting the kids and teens more than adults. The people that are at the biggest risk are those with other conditions (severe asthma, etc) where their body can't compete. Everyone should be concerned about getting it, but not freaked out. It does suck, and you feel pretty awful like you want to die, but we also need to remember that 35000 people die of the seasonal flu every year in the US alone. That being said, I hope everyone up there is doing ok...I'm expecting it in my house anytime now. I wish you a speedy recovery.

Hope she gets to feeling better!
So far my wife's school hasn't had any cases, but one of the students younger sibling 3 years old was taken to the hospital in Winona and they suspect the swine flu.
All the students and the teachers were given the H1N1 vaccinatiion yesterday since it was a small private school and it was set up by the Diocese, so hopefully that will keep any outbreak to a minimum.
Also, just found out on Monday that my wife is pregnant with our first and she was given the shot instead of the nasal spray. Hopefully it won't affect her negatively.
As Matt stated, people shouldn't get freaked out alot about it. It's just another strain of the flu bug which according to some experts is get less severe now.
I do hope she gets to feeling better soon and good luck!
