question concerning koi


this is my first upcomming winter as a koi pond person. I need advice on care taking. specifically feeding- how often?

I used to keep koi, and I wouldn't feed them at all in late fall and winter, it strangley warm these days, I would feed a couple times a week until (if?) it gets cold.

If I remember right you stop feeding after the water temp. is consistantly below
56 deg F. Their digestion slows down below that temp. and the food can actually spoil in their stomachs causing problems.

Yes as mentioned above, you should stop feeding koi at around 50 degrees F. Otherwise the food will rot before they can digest it, it can cause them to die.

Stop feeding them now. Make sure they have some shelter in the water in stay in the winter. Make rock cave or something. I keep my areation running all winter some say turn it off.

Check on them in the spring and start all over again.
