That is about all it is. Most tropical FW fish actually do better in brackish water than true FW. You can turn your FW tank into a brackish water tank simply by adding Salt to it. I always bought my salt at Petsmart but I don't remember the brand now. Its the same salt that you see in there displays (if they have it in there). Little blue box that looks like a milk carton almost. Even has directions on it to tell you how much to add.

well i tried once before a long time ago but it didn't work out for some reason. and i used Red Sea salt. the first time i set one up. should i try using that salt or something different.
because i was think of taking down my FW tank and scrubbing it, then to setup the brackish.

Most brackish water varies so much in salinity that you would need to find out what salinity the fish you want to keep prefer to be in. You can use any good SW salt for it. The further inland the fish are found, the lower the salinity tends to be since its further from the open ocean. There are a few exceptions though. Research what you want to keep and find out what there preferred range is and what the salinity should be.

For testing, use a SW test kit since you basically have dilluted SW to test parameters on. Keep a notebook for the test results so that you can look back and get a picture of trends over time that are going on in the tank.
