Using Old Southdown

I have about 100 lbs. of old southdown sand that was in a old DSB set-up! I’m thinking of setting up an African Cichlid tank & was wondering if I could flush out & rinse the SD then use it for the African set-up ?

If you do decide to reuse I would wash it very very very well.

I would also check the water par. after it has been up a week or so just to be sure everything is in check

Good luck and please keep us posted

Well I decided to use it after all! I did wash it very good & I even used RO water to rinse it. Even though it’s a freshwater tank I’m still going to use RO water to fill it. I normally use Kent’s R/O Right to re-mineralize the RO water for my freshwater tanks. It's only a 38gal tank 36" x 12" x 20" deep which may be a little to small for the lake Malawi I plan to keep in there but it gets my feet wet
