sustrate


can i use a sand substrate in my 2 gallon aquarium? instead of gravel or decorative stone?

yes, sand would be fine. I would look at a fine grade silicate

A guy I met recently suggested pool filter sand for FW planted tanks; you may want to mix in some laterite in the lower layers if you go strictly with pool filter sand though.

See what others have to say...I'm a newbie at the whole FW planted tank scene too; HTH

You can use it provided it is not araginite sand (effects water perams), it is a little small for proper siphoning, and I would not use it in a planted tank, but silica sand for a FO tank would be fine, and look cool.
