Most of the Inca snails are good for algae eating one thing to keep in mind though most if not all snails will eat live plants. There is a shrimp out called an Amonno (sp?) that does a good job also. Stay way from the tiny ones (snails) though they will quickly take over a tank.

I have had good luck with a combination of astreas and nasarius snails, good combination for algae and ditrus and stirring sandbed.

Sorry not much freshwater experience here, I was wondering why they were saying to stay away from the small ones or they will take over your tank. Makes sense now!

if you have plants, both of those will mow on your plants. IMHO I would just go for some ottocinclus...(fish)

i have had the worst time with Ottos.... i buy some, carefully acclimate them and then they get ich and die. nobody else gets ich, just the ottos. i have gotten them from 3 different sources and arrgh...
interesting about the apples and ramshorns eating plants... the places i was considetring getting them from swear that they won't eat the plants themselves unless the plants are dying or have algae all over them--- and the snails will eat only that algae.... but then, they ARE trying to sell something....

aple snails are the better snail i think. They get large so they are easier to find and remove if need be. They lay BIG PINK eggs, so its easy to keep up with population control.
they will eat anything and everything given the chance.
