Shell Dwellers

Here is a little info I stumbled across the other night on Shell Dwellers. Whats your input on these little fish?

Funny you should ask. I'm in the process of cycling a small tank right now that will be a shelly tank. I've kept other african cichlids before but I'm pretty excited about keeping the shell dwellers.

What species are you goin to stock in it? I have seem males that decide they want a female in thier territory and pick up shell with her in it and carry it to the other side of the aquarium . You will prolly want to keep a group of 1 male and 3 females IME.

When ya get your new babies let us see some pics. You know we are picture lovers here.

Jeff

PS. I dont konw if Jenn is stocking shell dwellers but She may be able to get them.

I'm looking at n. bevis or n ocilaris. I was think of two pairs (one pair of each) but I like your idea of one male and three females better.

I'll post pics once I get them. It'll be two more weeks before I'll be ready. Freshwater tanks take FOREVER to cycle.

Cheers...Michael

think these guys could be tankmates?

I think you'll find that dwarf puffers and shell dwellers have different water needs. If I remember correctly the dwarf puffers are truly fresh water fish while the shell dwellers need water close to that in Lake Tanganyika (high ph and kh).

OKay that's what I was more worried about than aggression.
I guess the puffers are from india while the chiclids are from africa.
Ahh well
trying to find a tankmate (if any) for these little guys
might be best to leave them alone
