Question about nitrate

My nitrate levels are consistently b/w about 30 and 40 ppm. Nitrite and ammonia are both 0 ppm. I run 6 100ml packs of Purigen in both of my Aquaclear 110 powerfilters. Do I need to be concerned with the nitrate level and if so, what do I need to do to lower it? I clean the gravel and change some water every week, so regular maintenance is not fixing the problem. I rinse the foam block in the filter, but maybe it has gunk in it I can't get out and it needs to be replaced, that's my only thought so far.

Hmm, in my FW tanks I never worried about nitrate that much, keep up on your matinence and don't let it get further but I think it's not too terrible as is.

Most of my FW tanks in the later years were all planted tanks, I accually dosed nitrate like mad trying to keep it at 10 PPM, adding a few plants, hornwart is a great starter plant, could definitally help provided you don't have any plant eating fish.
