Whiskey, is that micro-sword in the front of the tank?

Do you use CO2?

I have a 77 display that I'm thinking about going full planted with. It already has hornwort, elodea, and a couple of vallisneria (until the kribs got a hold of 'em). I only have 2 40 watt NOs right now but I'm willing to upgrade.

BTW, I've had pretty good results with the masonry sand and fertilizer spikes.

I'd really like to try a tropical water lilly like Dauben (shade tolerant) but I figure I'd probably need to go Halide.

~ one of the prettiest tanks I ever had was a little ten gallon fresh water planted tank with nothing more than a regular fourescent hood that came with it. I kept Amazon sword's alive, anubias is great, and java fern (that was attatched to some driftwood) My tank also got a little bit of sunlight from a window for a few hours a day. The tank is shallow, and doesn't need a super strong light. Go for it. Put something in, and see what thrives... you may be surprised. Just remember, if you have a lot of duckweed on top (which does need a lot of light) it cuts down on the light that reaches the bottom of the tank. Surprisingly, I got some tiny, ugly, cheap, little brown plant bulbs (in a bag) from the fish section of Walmart LOL (I was wandering around looking) and I thought what the heck? I dropped them into my ten gallon tank, and they ended up growing and becoming more beautiful than anything I bought at the fish store.

Hummmmm, since this was revived. . . How much light DO you guys have on any of your planted tanks? The anubias is the only plant that seems to be growing under my lights(WAY too low! I've got 60 watts of NO light on there. . . ) I can't find a shop fixture without a pull chain as the on/off that also has a reflector(*facepalm*)

I was kinda thinking(I think I may have asked this here before once?) about getting a cheap pc/t5 fixture that would be about 30 watts(without saying it will be exactly that. I've been searching ebay lately for something I can actually afford. . . ) and combining the current 30 watts for the other side. Would that likely work for the low light stuffs? Anyone have a cheap fixture for sale
