Pics of refugium

I went to the creek yesterday and found some really neat plants on the edge of the water. So I made this platform so they could float out of the water and their roots can be in the water.
this is the plants on top of the platform.

Also I caught quite a few mud puppies about 2 inces long and added them to the tank. They are solely aquatic so they never get out the water. If I ever get a pic of them I'll post it.

I took my cityfied nephew down the creek and after he found out all the cool stuff was in the water we couldn't get him out of it. So now Im sure there will be a lot less nintendo playing and alot more mud playing!!!

I put him up a 10 gallon tank for his room and he was not that excited about it untill he caught on that he could go down there and catch little fish, crawfish, mudpuppies and all sorts of neat things to put in the tank himself. Hopefully I have created a monster!!! LOL

i spent most of my 'youth' up to my waist in local ponds, swamps and creeks...

ruined every pair of shoes i had.

didn't bother to take them off before i went exploring.

had a very patient mom who let me take my findings home

ROFL!!!!

We used to call that creekin where im from I miss it alot.

One word of caution though ya might wanna quarintene the plants in a sep tank so as not to import any harmful bacteria or runoff chemicals.

Isn't it fuuny how we will put ourselves at risk to harmful bacteria or runoff by spalunking. But we must quarintine these wonderful findings, as not to contaminate our pets. Humm seams kinda strange.
Anyway thanks for the advice but no quarintine here, If it is clean enough to play in, then it is clean enough for my turtles.

it si kinda ironic.

however, i watched two of my beloved childhood ponds die of runnoff poisoning two summers in a row... it really sucked. there used to be hundreds of frogs one year, the next the woods were silent

luckily for me my parents still live where i grew up. so i still have access to the creek that i spent countless hours playing in and around.

from being wigged out by lampreys, to catching shiners in full breeding colours, and finding out that sculpins are just as hard to keep as mandarins.
