Oscars???

the wife has two oscars one 7" tiger stripe, and one 4" albino tiger stripe.
I guess my question is how much longer can they stay in a 55 gal before they need to be moved. because i have been told that you could leave them in there but you are asking them to get deformed, cause they only grow as large as the tank that they are in. And i want them to get to their full posiable size. so far they play nice together with three plecos two of which are around 7" long and the third is about 5" long. need more hiding places thought for the plecos. the only thing that i have noticed is that the larger oscar is a pig. always hungry. i could feed him in the morning and within an hour he'll be begging for food. I know he is begging because he will try to jump up out of the water and hit the glass canopy to get me to come over closer to the tank.

Any info would be greatly accepted.

they still have room. you will want to move them by the end of the year though.

that is a falacy that fish are limited in growth by the size of the tank. fish will always keep growing. if the tank is too small it will just stress and kill them.

just make sure they can swim around and turn around with room on all sides.

The plecos and Oscar are to many for that tank size, like twitterbait said they dont get deformed by the tank size, what happend here with most cichlids and big fresh water fishes is that they put a lot of bio load to the tank and just the 2 oscar and 1 pleco means lot of water changes, they are limited in water volume those niitrates will raise faster with that many fishes. Plecos are very very messy and Oscar to when they eat.

If you go to Oscarfish.com they rapidly are going to tell you that tank is suitable just for one oscar. If you do massive water changes weekly to mantain those nitrates on 10, that I bet they are over 20. Your main question how long do they are suitable to live togwether in that tanks just a few month.

Think of this every fish need for tank space.
Each oscar need minimun 55 and also the pleco.
Do the math to have them all happy. Jsut for the opscar 110 gallon tank. And with the plecos you will need over 180 gallon tank.

Another thing fish get stuned by water quality.

Do get this the wrong way im just telling you what i learn over the year on that Forum. You learn a lot on freshwater. The best is to get the plecos a new home, or 1 oscar and 1 pleco, and hope the oscar dont get agressive toward him. Oscar grow an 1 per month so the little guy at the end of the year will be like 9 - 10 and the one that is 7 inches when he hits the 9 inches he will strat to grow slower since he is reaching adulthood.

Good luck with the fishes !!
