Opinions on Medication for FW fish

Do you use chemicals or prefer to use more natural methods to treat such as salt or garlic maybe even a sw dip

i've been lucky, none of my freshwater fish have gotten sick in years, this includes my goldfish. I do keep stuff on hand like fungus cure, ich away and Binox (and that DrWellfish stress coat stuff)...but i never had a planted tank before so i don't know if i would use them in my new setup... i'd probably try the garlic treatment first.

It depends on the illness now if its just ich, I just add epsom salt kills it in its freefloating stage and it is gone in days, but if its like dropsy I medicate asap.
If it's possilbe to do the natural method I stick to that since I believe medication adds to the stress, but if it is very dangerous I medicate asap.
But as said above, I never have any problems, I have yet to deal with anything other an a small HITH problem on one of my cichlids.

Thanks
JR

renzema, tell us more about your epsom salt ich treatment for fw fish! i use rid-ich for seven to 14 days with daily 25% water changes when mine get ich (usually cuz i didnt quarantine!) and it always gets rid of it, although with my loaches and I used to have a ghostfish, youre not supposed to use the ridich, so I would be interested in the epsom salt thing.
