Bettas are more aware of what's going on outside the tank than most small fish. You might find the fish more interesting if you get a pair that could breed in a 15 gallon rather than trying to find a fish that will interact with you: African shell dwellers, blue rams, etc.

Most of the Apisto family will be ok in a 15.

The male and female betta IMO wouldnt be a good idea as she has to be ready to breed or he will in most cases kill her. Once the eggs are fertilised and placed in the bubble nest she is taken out of the tank and he does all the parenting. Males can be kept in a comunity tank with no problems as a general rule. Be aware in most cases they wont get along with Gourami's or angels but most tetra's will be ok with them

Hope this helps

Jeff

Oops, I didn't word that well, thanks for catching it. I didn't mean to suggest a breeding pair of bettas in a 15, just that a male betta would be a good, outgoing fish for a 15 gallon tank. Most fish with lots of "personality" are too big for a tank that size which is why I suggested fish that could be breed in a 15 as an alternative for 512148048.

Dwarf puffers!
I'm considering setting up a similar size tank for these guys!
I think they can be kinda fin nippy although they only grow to 1''. But i'm pretty sure they are good in a small group.
I don't know about tankmates though.

what about kilifish. I don't know much out them but I'm pretty sure they stay small and look good!

I actually thought of some of the FW puffers i do like them and also looked at some small Cichlids i have kept bettas be for but they were bowl fish with bamboo. i have also thought of guppies but i would slowly switch them to salt knowing me so ill stay away. what would be some good pieces like rock and rock i don’t like the wood because it dyes the water what are some alternatives

Yeah that's the problem around here with them. But there's lots of stuff that we don't alsways get so I figured maybe around your parts there's more selection.

Sorry no help on the rocks or decorations.

Good luck

If you do set up with the puffers I'd be really interested in how that goes. I won't set up another tank until at least christmas time. But if we both do similar set ups we could compare notes!
