Gold fishy pooping bubbles

I don't have FS but a neighbor asked me what is wrong with his goldfish.

It is pooping bubbles that don't come off it's rectum and sometimes it is so much it begins to float the fish, says he pulls them off.

What is it and how to cure it?

Thanks

odd... the fish might be ingesting a lot of air when it eats, but its strange that the bubbles stay encased in the droppings... maybe if he switches to feeding the goldfish sinking pellets it might help. also frozen green peas are supposed to help with basic goldfish digestion...

floaty poop is gas, usually caused by certain brands of foods.
a goldfish's diet is mainly vegatarian. try feeding spirulina pellets for two weeks straight then switch to a more digestable food like progold or hikari lionhead formula (pellet). still feed spirulina as its main diet tho, basically any goldfish food would be a supplement
when feeding pea's, blanch them, cut them in half and remove the shell.
i myself dont like feeding pea's, spirulina algae is a more natural approach.
pea's CAN cause gas making the situation worse

~ goldfish are grazers in nature, they are not made to eat lots of pellets (like we feed them at one time.)

Most goldfish problems can be corrected by soaking the flakes or pellets before you feed them. When they eat dry food, it swells in their bellies, making the egg-shaped breeds float funny, or swim upside down for a few hours. It can also cause constipation, and other problems. They need a lot of algae in their tank... or better yet, an outdoor tub garden in the Summer time is greatly appreciated by goldfish. That way, they can graze on algae, like they're designed to do.
