freshwater eels?

So now that I suddenly have much more room in my 72g I'm starting to consider new additions (in about two months). I've been researching peacock eels and fire eels and would like to know if anyone here has kept them, what you thought, etc. Pics as usual are always a bonus!

You may be able to keep 2 adult Fire Eels in a tank that size. But in all likelyhood there will be conflict as they get larger and more terrotorial. They can get upwards to 3 feet long, do best with subdued lighting and require a ton of hiding/ambush places. They are an awsome fish. I had a pair breed after 3 years.

wow, pics? I was told that peacock eels only get about a foot long which is all I really need as I'm partial to community tanks.

I had a couple pics publisheb in TFH but I had them befor the digital age so I'd have to find the shoe box I have the pics in and scan them up. BTW eels are carnivors. You'll wind up with missing fish if not carefull to keep him specifically fed. I love community tanks. All the movement at all levels and the colors. Even with my experience breeding difficult FW fish my all time favorite freshie fish is the Fancy Guppie. A close second would be German Blue Ram.

The fore eels are the ones that get Big and yes there may indeed be conflicts with 2. I personally have never had one however at my old job we got them all the time. The like to climb and slither out if you dont have a cover of some sort on the tank.

Very true. Tight fitting canopy is a must.

mmm... rams. I always wanted to keep rams, but they're not readily available around here. Once the cray goes into the 72g I may try to get a pair for the 38g. Would rams be ok with neons?

Should be fine with them. Order them from liveaquaria. They have decent prices. Neons are fast enough to keep away from Rams.
