Found my Dojo on the floor today

Today we found our Dojo on the floor and I thought he was dead. He was not moving and covered in carpet fuzz. I picked him up to take him to the toilet and luckily the guy started flipping back and forth. I quickly put him in the tank and he is still alive. He is breating and farting lots of bubbles (from the air they pump into their intestines) and floating upside down.

I read up on them some and I understand the mucus them selves up and store air in their intestine for dry condition survival. I hope he pulls through we love this fish.

I'm sorry to hear that,. but I'm happy he's still alive for you! I hope he pulls through - I've had fish out of the tank for quite a while that have made it so there is hope.

Yeah he currently seems to just be floating being pushed around by the current in the tank and not responding to much of anything. I am worried he may not make it. He is still breathing though. There is still some hope.

the best thing to do would be to put him in a higher flow area where he can have maximum o2 exchange

Yeah I even ran the air feed to my power head and he was in the high flow. He was doing ok last night but this morning he was gone. I checked and checked and there were no signs of life from him, zero gill movement, zero reflex,

It's a sad day we have had him a long time.

So for now I have the back opening where my heater, filter, and power head hang taped over. I tried cutting some lexan last night but it kept shattering (using a clean cut wood/plastic blade in my jib saw going nice and easy).

Any tips on cutting the stuff so it don't keep doing that? Were going to get another Dojo tonight because ours was so much fun.

jig saw are almost allways going to shatter that stuff because its a pull and push motion and it flexes to much use a 150-200 tooth blade on a table saw or any other round blade saw or even a band-saw would work

Sorry to hear your Dojo didn't make it

A router works pretty good too, or a router bit on a dremel. I've had sucess melting through it with the wheels too but wear eye protection and gogles.

My best luck has always been a very fine tooth hand saw and a stedy hand however.

I have a good plunge router. My main concerns are controlling the thin material and I figured the crazy power the router puts out would just shred the stuff.

Oh it's really thin? What about a router bit on a dremel or using a piece of ply as a backup material for the router?

I will try my dremel (if I have a side cut bit) or my router.

I just got back from the LFS and we got a new tiny dojo lurch. It makes me sad to realize how big our old one was.

We also picked up a emerald crab for our salt water tank.

I love dojo loaches, but you have to watch them! I'm sorry that you lost yours.
