foul play

i had two exotic gold fish to start out my tank. Had them for about 6 months. I wanted my tank to eventually be a coy tank but the gold's kinda grew on me,one of the two was verry cool.every time i came to the tank he would come up to the top and let me pet him(sounds wierd)but wen i fed them i kinda got them in the rutine of letting me touch them. any how. i interduced a butterfly coy to the tank. hes about 8in long way bigger then the fat little gold fish. About a week later my little buddy was dead! i dident know why. the other fish were fine water was fine.i dont know what happened. I switched thare diet but i dont think thats it. b/c the other gold would have kicked too. ne way thats the story (evil evil coy fish)...... one more thing. does any one know what to look for in sexing exotic golds and coy?

well, i'm sure there is some explaination, just might not be the Koi itself.

tank size?
water params?
did you test for ammonia or anything?

Koi and goldfish are major waste producers, your addition of a fair sized koi may have allowed an ammonia spike that was toxic to the weakest fish... just one possibility, its impossible to guess without more info.

sometimes goldies just die, weird but they do.

I don't know about gold fish but I do know how to sex koi. Female koi will be more plump than male koi, and will also have rounder and thinner pectoral fins. Male koi will be shaped like a cigar, also they will have more pointed and thicker pectoral fins.
