i got some new fish, some humongous guppies and a few more female bettas that are nicely colored, and would you know it, the starter to my lights puckerd out.

glad i don't have a lot of plants relying on them. i think the hood has some corrosion in there cause a new started did the same as the old one.

That's anoying, are you going to take the fixture apart to inspect the connections?

Sometimes those starters just go out, a bad or old bulb can help them.
