Best way to build a Koi pond?

What is the best way to build a koi pond? Should I go w/ digging a hole and adding a liner or digging a hole and doing concrete?

i would use the liner that way you can change it if you like. just add a pond underlayment to protect the liner. dig down at least 3 feet at its deepest spot then make a shelf about a foot and a half up i did it all the way around the pond for plants.

lay out a hose on the ground and move it and such till you get a shape you like, then spray paint the ground where the hose was. then design where you want shelfs for plants and where its gonna be deep . then get a shovel and dig ! once you get a good shelfs and stuff. make sure you pull out alll the weeds and roots you can find. then get sand and put 2 inches of sand everyone in the hole. then get cloth fabric (under layment) and cover the sand and everything with the fabric. then put the liner down.

Good luck with it!I wanted to do one but we have to many trees and the ground has to many huge rocks and small bolders in it!But their is anougher way is to build up with walls and sink the liner in that!

I also like a waterfall! It gets more oxygen and you can have the filter hidden back there(so doing maintance is easyer!)

Before you do anything go here and talk to people, trust me you won't regret it!

These people know what they are doing and have been doing for a long time.

Ok thanks for the info...will check out koiphen.com...yeah found a guy in my area willing to give me his pond line + filter 100+ moss boulders...a 15x5x2 pond all i would need to do is fill it w/ dirt...but his estimate on dirt is insane...imo not worth it due to not wanting such a huge pond. He stated he will need about 32 cubic yards of dirt...not buying it and he was requesting me to fill it / the dirt also.
