Beautiful tank. Isn't creating a natural environment for the fish a lot more fun than plastic (despite the work)? I really enjoy creating a little world inside the fish tank.

yeah i keep looking at it going, man, that is the best (freshwater) tank I've ever had. I know the fish are loving it. thanks for the compliments! the best part is, its really low maintenance. I have all low light requiring plants, no co2 supplementation. just florabase substrate and I top off every week. so far I havent done a water change since the tanks only a couple months old, but I need to start that soon.

As long as the water chemistry and temperature of the new water and the tank are pretty close the fish will love the water changes. Lots of fish spawn after a large water change. Your plants might like it, too. New water replenishes some of the nutrients the plants use up.

its seachem's florabase substrate. you can buy it by the bag, around 22 bucks a pop. i used four bags. seems to work pretty good. shouldnt have to supplement, but you are supposed to replace it after a year for best results.
