Any idea for a spare 20g lying around?

I have a fully set up tank, or will soon, as i'm giving the African Cichlids away, two years is plenty, i really want something new and different. So, how about those cute little freshwater puffers? But that would be a species only tank becasuse they're agressive... What about a community tank, what species would you suggest. It would be an unplanted tank that i could do heavy mantience on (50% weekly WC's) Any ideas? Thanks!

I like the community thing in a 20. IME ya can do a community tank alot easier in that size tank unless ya wanna do Apisto's. They are a dwarf cichlid and are very pretty as well.

Good luck in whatever ya choose

BTW Puffers are brackish

Hey Jeff!!! I found one small puffer that is completly freshwater, the little dwarf guys. As far as the community, i'm open to any ideas or suggestions. I don't have that much experience with freshwater community tanks. What number of fish are we talking about? Like 6 marble hatchets, 2 cory catfish, 10 neons, small pleco, and 4 swordtails? I have a heavy filtration system and plan on lots of WC's, so heavy bioload isn't a huge problem.

You wont wanna mix the puffers with nay fish they do have beaks and like to be agressive. I would still add some salt to the water if you have a puffer. A good rule of thumb with FW tanks is 1 inch of fish per gallon of water. I usually base this on adult size. However with the smaller fish like neons and such ya can cheat it a bit. Think little fish little poop heheh

I would not get into heavy WC's unless you like to do it. I change 1/3 once a month with great success. Just make sure you keep your pH, nitrates and nitrite in check.

But Steve, WC's are the most fun part of aquarium keeping right? Just kidding. I have to do 60g WC's on my reef, and those are 45min long ordeals. It wouldn't be hard on the fresh water tank, so bioload isn't a huge issue, i just want the inhabitants to have enough territory...
