Question

Amphipods

I am not sure what is going on but I have amphipods in a African Chiclid tank. More appropriately they are in the wet/dry sump. I have several tanks both marine and freshwater and from time to time rocks etc are traded back and forth. The salinity of the freshwater is about 2 cups salt to 180 gallons of water. Could these be specimines that have adapted to freshwater or are there freshwater amphipods. I googled freshwater amphipods and the picture they presented looks nothing like what is living in my sump. They look exactly like the amphipods in my reef tank sump. Any ideas? Wade

One easy way to find out is to take some aphipods from the SW tank and put them in a small container of the FW and see if they all go belly up or survive it. I need to come out there some day and see your tanks.
