Thin wall tubing OK to use for returns?

I've got ~ 10' of thin wall tubing (1"). Is this OK to use for returns? If it matters, the pumps are ~ 1100 GPH. What about for the other end (the one that goes into the pump)?

Just concerned about it's thickness. I'm guessing the flow is better (more space inside).

thanks,
Chris

do you know what the pressure rating on the tubing is? this would be my only concern. i really doubt it could not handle anything that your pump could produce. if you want to be sure. find the maximum head height for the pump. this is the max psi that the pump can put out. it is .445 psi per vertical foot. the rating should be on the side of the tubing. i would make sure the tubing can handle double what the max press. of the pump is, just to be safe.

HTH,

G~

Geoff, I must have misunderstood something as my math is way off...

The max head is 22.3 feet and pressure is shown as 220

so 22.3 x .445 = 9.93 x 2 = 19.85

OK, where am I missing something?

I'm amazed at the difference, some 3/4 sched. 40 that was laying around was about twice the rated pressure as this thin-wall pvc.

thanks!

Chris

19.85 PSI looks to be correct....

you are correct. that is why i figured it would not be a problem, but i just wanted to get you the numbers for future reference. with the smaller sized under 2" just about anything will work pressure wise. it is when you get above 2" that you may have to start paying attention to the ratings. that whole surface area on the inside of the tube physics thing.
