Equipment Cabinent (nerd style)

BEWARE 56k People. (I'm sorry)

Was tired of all my equipment siting NEXT to my tank. So I did this to fix that ugly problem, granted it's not done, I have to wait till my next day off to finish the wiring.

Note the cabinent on the left side. This is actually a 1970 Record player. I picked it up at a garrage sell when I was about 13 to use as a stand for my 15 gallon FW tank. When I switched to the reef I eneded up using it to hold the carpet in place on one side of the room. So it's served no purpose for 3 years. WELL time to fix that.

Now you see my lovely heat generating MH'S (VU's are not mounted yet) And two heat killing fans.

Ugly sump. Takes up entire stand, and can't be removed from front. This is going to be cleaned up in days to come. But does it's job to keep ugly pumps heaters etc out of sight. It's a power disaster under there, THANK GOD FOR GFCI's

Here is a better closeup of the old stand. Record player, radio and 8 track got donated to the dumpster prior to modification of stand. I have some stain I'm going to put on lid to clean it up a bit. I'm actually probably going to pull off all the paneling and restain it much darker to match the tank and rest of apartment.

Main breaker and 3 GFCI's installed. Hardwired into system. Main breaker for entire tank setup. GFCI's are seperated into 3 sub systems

1. Master Pumps, (including Primary pump and chiller pump)
2. Secondary Pumps (including powerheards, skimmer, top off)
3. Aux (including, lighting, Chiller, fans, nightlights)

If the Master Pump is tripped the Aux will also be tripped to prevent damage to the chiller, and kill the lights so tank does not cook with lack of circulation and fans. The Aux can be tripped without effecting the mainpumps.

Breaker open. GFCI's are currently mounted under breaker and can't be accessed. I will be cutting the hole below the breaker to mount the GFCI's so they can be accessed without pulling cabinent out from wall. I just wanted to get this up and running partialy on my day off. The giant hole on the left will actually be two parts. After I cut the plate to cover it, there will be a little glass/plasitic door to access chiller controls below. On top will be individual switches for, each pump, fans, and filter. 10 lighted rocker switches in all. Only 7 will be used for now, Room to grow.

Here you can see The chiller (tank at a nice 78 degrees now, vs 90, poor poor abused corals) One of the ballasts. and the 12volt powersupply (it runs the fans, and custom electronic testers I'm building) Note the poor cutting job, and ugly wood. If you look under the Breaker you see the wood is nice paneling the entire bottom of controls is going to be done in water sealed nice grained wood. (I might replace the top, but I think it will look fine if just restained)

Pre-cleaned up cables and hoses under the cabinet

http://doteltech.com/images/tank/fan.jpg
Two VERY high speed large fans are located on both sides of cabinent (where speakers used to be) One drawing in cold air from outside, one exausting it out. (thoes chillers get hot)

This unit is comming around quite nicely. helps keep noise and clutter down. Also it's going to add alot of safty to the system. Once I get the switches, testers, and computer equipment built and installed I'm going to be able to control, check tank from off location. It will warn me of problems, etc. I'm quite excited.

If you think I'm nuts you have to see the computer controled and desigened entertainment corner of room.

looks good, I bought a cabinet from Home Depot which is next to my tank for some ballast and some extra junk.

it's about 40, Most of my equipment is setup for about an 80-100. But I'm not allowed anythign more then a 50. here at the apt. So when I move out in about a year. I will just get a bigger tank and keep my sump, chiller, etc.
