DIY Evaporator?

i am looking to build an evaporator. i have not seen anything out there. does anybody know of any plans or ideas on an evaporator. i think my system is not evaporating enough water, so my kalk gets old quickly. i would rather not shrink my reactor.

I won't even begin to try and understand what you need it for, but I bought a small fan at W**-mart and aimed at the surface of my sump to cool it and my evap rate went waaaay up. Tank temp. dropped too! (Cheaper than a chiller!)

that is part of the problem. i do not really have a sump. i have a refugium with not a lot of flow through it, so the water is not aggitated enough to cause a lot of evaporation. i tried the fan thing on the refug, but it just did not do to much. i guess i could put another pump in there aimed at the surface, hopefully that will not mess up the flow to much and annoy my refug critters.

maybe a small powerhead might help

Maybe you should take a look at how humidifiers due it. I know some use a wick and fan (the cheap ones) I'm not sure how the others work.

laddy00- i like that idea. i can steal the old one from the babies humidifier. for some reason i am afraid he SW will do bad things to the wick, but i am willing to try.
