Two goofy shrimp....

I have 2 shrimp in my tank. One cleaner and one pepermint. The pepermint molts about once every other week to every third week. The cleaner has never molted. they both behave perfectly normally. Is this normal? Also, should I remove the old skin from the tank or is it ok to let the "system" clean it up?

Thanks

Hi there! Sounds like your shrimp are doing just fine together! You can take the old carcass skeleton out of the tank or leave it there! I never have taken out the remains and it disappeared sooner or later as other fish, inverts and DSB infauna(critters) cleaned it up in due time! Johnny

Thanks:)

They both seemed to be as happy as shrimp can be (?) but I wasn't sure..... I thought maybe one had different requirements than the other that I was unaware of. So far, the tank has cleaned up the old carcas every time, just wanted to make sure.

Thanks again

The cleaner shrimp I have had only seem to molt a couple of times a year. I would not be worried. I always left the molt in the tank, I figured it had nothing in there that would foul the tank.

Shrimp Moults

Our Cleaner Shrimp ( my favorite thing in the whole tank) sheds once a month like clock work. And I never take them out either. I think these two items are like evrything else reef. Very few are the same and what works for you is the best system!
