Raising brine shrimp??
I have a vacant 10 gallon tank that is still running (nice aged water and all) after i took the puffers out of it and have them in their new one....
i also have a whole vial of brine shrimp eggs and i was wondering if i could use the 10 gallon as a brine shrimp raising tank and see if i could get enough to hatch and grow to feed from it every once in a while. I've tried the sodabottle and the air pump setup before and just got tired of looking at it, and it usually was messy and a PITA to try to feed from... and the shrimp never got all that big etc etc....
would i have the same disappointing results as the soda bottle only on a larger scale?
i figure its worth asking cause i already bought the eggs a while ago and the tank is totally ready to use, no investment to make cause its all there.
i also considered just letting pods take over that tank and maybe try to somehow feed from that .
any ideas on how to do one or the other if either are feasable?
don't suppose i could have both pods and shrimp?
i think there's already some pods in there at any rate, so if i just leave it running those should increase on their own- accelerating it would be interesting to try...
...or should i try a nano?
then i would have to get decent lights... *sigh*
any ideas or suggestions for use of a prepared 10 setup with a 10 or 15 watt light?

Chances are you'll have limited succcess rearing Brine Shrimp. I tried with very little success. Seems the only thing I was really able to successfully raise was a big stink! I mean those suckers REEEK!
Anyhoo.....I never got my Brine to get very big either. I'm not too upset by it casue Brine shrimp have very, VERY little nutritional value to fish. Its kinda like popcorn to them. it fill s'em up but does very little for them except make 'em poop a bunch.

I'm interested in rasing brine also. I read recently that the recommended way was to get a small inflatable pool,(those ones that are like 5' in diameter) fill it with seawater from a water change, put it in the sunlight,(inside this time of the year! ) and wait for phyto to grow. Then hatch nauplii (s?) ( baby brine) and put them in there. Within 2-3 weeks should have lots of big brine shrimp! Sounds like a lot of work to me! Although the idea of placing them in green water makes a lot of sense! Hmmm...
And the BRW crowd is bizarre reefin women, although I think it stands for beautiful reefin women!

Adult brine are an excellent way to feed specific food to your fish, especially if they don't want to take it, or to help start a difficult new fish to begin eating.
I gut load mine with spirulina or Selco before feeding them to the fish.
Unfortunately it's a lot of work to raise them so if you can buy live brine shimp that is the way to go.
I have pictures and text on my web site about my set-up.

LOL about the BRW thing guys, Casey, you should feel lucky i've lost 55 pounds after having my daughter or i'd sit on you, i could still make a good dent, but 55# ago it coulda been lethal!
i like the new BRW pic, i was a little suprised when it suddenly changed from a red fish to a blue tart, but hey its kinda pretty

I did run a brine culture running for 2 years on my back step. Hatched some brine (or you could buy some adult brine) stuck them in a bucket on my back porch in discarded tank water (from water changes) and let the sun do its thing. Rain topped it off, sometimes I topped it off, but otherwise it thrived on neglect, froze over in the winter, and came back to life in the spring.
No heater, no aerator, no nuthin'.
