Calico Crab

Anybody ever see these in a LFS? I know someone who got one for his reef! No, not me!

Hi Johnny. You might tell your friend to return this crab. It is a type of box crab that will eat anything that it can catch, including fish. Do a search on the internet or look at pages 132-134 of the Marine Reef Aquarium Handbook by Robert Goldstein for more information.

I've seen them. They were in the reef system with corals for sale, I didn't see them eat any of the corals, but then I didn't spend hours observing them either. They are quite friendly and come to recognize the one who feeds them....they used to spit water at the LFS owner when she went by.

Any crab can become a problem. These guys get rather large (fist size) so let common sense prevail.

They are very kewl though
