Triplets!?!?!
Well, I've been taking a break from reefing for the past couple weeks due to some recent (expensive) losses that have made me slow down a bit.
I did have some good news to share though, so I thought I'd start a thread.
I now have three rose BTA's in my tank, where before I only had one!
It started the other night... the wife and I were checking out the tank when our BTA started to move out of it's normal hole toward a spot under the rockwork.
Thinking that it was just on 'walkabout', we were afraid that it was going to walk into some of the other Euphyllia specimens that surround it... we were pleasantly surprised to find out the next morning that we now had two anemones instead of one.
We've been keeping an eye on things to make sure the anemone's healing well, and this morning we counted 3 feet instead of two!
So we are now the proud parents of 3 rose BTA's... I wish I could take some pictures that would show something but they're all still partially under the rockwork and healing.
I know that it's pretty normal for a BTA to split in two, but is it normal for an anemone to split into 3 pieces? Or is there something stressing it out to make it do this?
Well, I think that's it for now... I'll try to get some pictures of all three of them once they come back out into the light.

Well... I've got even more good news!
Not only did my anemone split 3 ways... I discovered that I have two very small baby rose anemone's in the rockwork as well!
Dang... now I'm getting excited about reefing again!
Anyway, here's the picture of momma rose and the first baby (which you can kinda see behind momma, partially deflated, to the lower left).

Here's the second baby, still hiding under the rockwork and healing.

Here's one of the really tiny babies... I don't think these were splits... it's about the size of a dime.

And here's the last small rose, about half the size of the last one... for a total of 5 anemones... looks like I'll have some frag trades sometime in the near future...

RA-the one that is about the size of a dime. are you sure that is also a rose BTA. i have several of those in my tank. i thought they were majano anemoneas. they never seem to get any bigger than a dime. i am asking because i am not sure what i have. but they look a lot like the dime sized pic you posted.

Heheh... I can see where you're coming from, but if you look closely at the 'dime-sized' picture you can see that the tips of the anemone's fingers are hot pink, just like the other rose's... It looks exactly like the big one I have... only smaller. It's an n-scale bubble-tip anemone.
I should say that 'both' the small anemones have hot pink tips on them... they're just not that evident in the pictures...

That's great - happy moment.
Our rose took it's time to split but maybe 3weeks ago we had quaddruplets, yes it split into four plus the main one. Then a couple of weeks ago the green bta stops eating and last week on the tank move, I see this "long" anoemoe (sp) under a rock. So now we have 3 rose's total and 2 green bta's after the move
