Question

Quick Aptasia Question

I haven't used kalkwasser to remove aiptasias so do you still have to remove the aiptasia from the rock? How much kalk to you mix with the water?

Pam, I mix up about 1 tsp kalk to 2 tsp, maybe a bit more, Ro to create a really thick mix, almost a paste. Load this into a syringe and inject the base of the aptasia. He'll literally disolve where he sits.

When I do majanos,

I use fresh mixed Kalkwasser. I don't heat it at all. I inject about 10 ccs into the mouth of the offending intruder. The last batch of them took two injections over two days, and it finally fell off the rock to the sand, and I immediatly netted the critters and tossed them.

I'm removing one rock at a time into a dish pan with tank water. Then injecting and removing as many as I can find. Then I'm putting that rock into the refugium with the Pepperments and Copperband. The ones I miss show up later and I take the rock back out and remove some more until I don't see any more. There are literally dozens on some rocks. It shouldn't matter how many I inject since I'm doing it out of the tank, does it? There is no way I can get them all since some are too tiny to see.

The hawkfish have got to go so I can add Pepperments, otherwise this will be a constant battle. FWIW, Aiptasias need to be removed quickly before it gets to this point. Live and learn from my nightmare.

My tank is a disaster.

Join the pest keepers club, Pam. I gots all different kinds and my tank is small, so Copperbands are not an option.

The problem with this process is that most of my base rocks were the worst and I'll need those to rebuild the reef. I kinda wanted to start rebuilding the reef as I cleared the rock.

You cannot see alot of aiptasia when you remove the rock from the water. They shrink back in their wholes.
