Dead Anemone....

OK here goes... Had on ongoing problem for about a week with this anemone.. well it was 75% shrizzled an turning quite pal when I got home today So I mad the choice and pulled it...

I do not have a secondary tank to try and revive it so It is a Loss.. a big loss to me.. because I loved it so much and it was so HUGE...

Anyhow I have a a few questions... here is what the water was and is since I have gotten home...

Nitrates

10-13 <-- Bit on the higher end froma dead star fish I could not get out of the tank in time.. Opt'd not to move all rocks and disrupt EVERYTHING.

In any Event is not that high...

Nitrites
0

Ammonia
0

PH
8.3 EXACTLY

Alkalinity
Normal

Salinity
1.024

I used BRAND NEW red Sea Marine Lab test kit.. Bought from store today.. how long was it on shelf ? Who knows...

So the question is ...

What went wrong ?

Lighting ?

350W and 40W actinic Strip.. Lights run total of 12 Hours a day..

75 Gallon Tank..

Now heres my BIG question...

I had a clown who just getting used to it...

Will this stress him out ?

What should I use to replace it ? Finger leather ?

I want to get something pretty hardy.. and do not risk the chance of wiping whole tank if it goes....

So anyway...

My Anemone is dead... and tooka piece of my heart with it...

Thanks for the support andhelp on this in advance...

Please Advise ASAP so that I can take corrective action...

PS did 5% water change about 20 minutes ago to try and bring the nitrates down even more..

Thanks Again !

When the BTA I had (and he too was HUGE) died I asked the same questions and arrived at nothing more than there seemed to be a lot of people who's BTA's had died at the time mine had, and we sort of wondered if they'd all came from the same bad batch, maybe shipped or collected badly. Who knows.
As for an alternative, does this clown look happy?

Okay, how many are going to blame me for being so negative about the anemone's chances of survival?

Not me. I've never been able to keep one, and have decided that there's an element of luck involved. And I just don't have it.

Danielle

PS. Clowns will just pick something if they need it. Don't feel obligated to provide a substitute - chances are that the clown won't notice or care. I have a maroon hosting "by" (not in) a head of frogspawn. I had one host with a Maxijet once. I have a pair in another tank hosting with a PVC elbow. Try not to beat yourself up over the anemone. They're just tough to keep.

Thanks.. That makes me feel alot better knowing its not just me (not that I am happy you had trouble)

But anyway.. being that he had it and now he doesn''t I don't think he will mind that much.. but your saying substitute it with nothing ?

Like don't even bother ?

Well I hate to hear it, I was hoping that it would have worked out better. But some times they just die, It sucks but its true.

Take your time getting a new one.
If it was a water issue or infection better to give it a little time to get out of your system.

No niner, It sickened me when you told me he'd died. No pats here. My BTA was the first thing I had die in my tank, I guess you never forget that. I'm really sorry to hear it happened that way with you. Maybe I should just shut up for awhile.

I've never had any luck with Sebaes but have had no problems with LTAs. I had one split a little over two years ago and my other one split today.

i have unfortunately killed my fair share of sebae's. long before sites like this existed and had to rely on LFS's. the only thing i have had luck with are carpets, but then again it was pretty much by itself, they can and will eat any fish in the tank. including clowns. not a good choice either.

oh, there are a couple of anemones i can keep successfully, aiptasia, and mojano. them i'm good at.

they are difficult to keep, i agree with Danielle there seems to be a fair amount of luck with keeping them.
